Hulu president Kelly Campbell exits with immediate effect

US streamer Hulu’s president Kelly Campbell has left the company after less than two years in the role.

Campbell’s departure was announced in an internal memo sent to staff by Disney’s chairman of international operations and direct-to-consumer Rebecca Campbell (no relation).

The memo did not provide a reason for Kelly Campbell’s departure, noting only that the departure was “effective immediately.” Until a replacement is named, the execs who worked under Kelly Campbell will now report to Rebecca Campbell.

Kelly Campbell’s exit comes 21 months after she was appointed to the role of president. She joined the US-based streaming service, which is majority-owned by Disney, in 2017 as chief marketing officer. Prior to that she spent 12 years working for Google in a range of senior positions, most recently as senior director of growth marketing for Google Cloud.

“I wanted to let you all know that Kelly Campbell has left the Company, effective immediately. I know you’ll join me in thanking her for her contributions to Hulu over the past four years and wishing her well,” said Rebecca Campbell’s memo.

“Hulu remains an important part of our direct-to-consumer strategy and I look forward to working closely with all of you until her replacement is named.”

After the news broke, Kelly Campbell posted a message on her LinkedIn page, saying: “Four years ago I accepted my dream job when I joined Hulu. And it didn’t disappoint. I worked with the best of the best, in a values-driven culture full of the most talented people around. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together. While I’ve made the decision to move on from Hulu, I’ll forever bleed green.”

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the departing president is in talks to take a senior role at Comcast-owned NBCUniversal.
