Hulu hands straight-to-series order to novel adaptation Tell Me Lies

First Day

Disney-owned US streamer has given a straight-to-series order to Tell Me Lies, a drama based on Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name.

The series follows a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship between two college friends as it unfolds over the course of eight years.

Grace Van Patten (Tramps, The Meyerowitz Stories) has been cast as lead Lucy Albright, while Meaghan Oppenheimer (We Are Your Friends) will executive produce and write the pilot.

Hollywood actor Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss also executive produce under their Belletrist banner, while Laura Lewis exec produces for Rebelle Media and Shannon Gibson for Vice Studios.

Lovering will serve as a consulting producer on the series, which comes to Hulu from 20th Television.

In related news, Hulu has boarded Australian drama First Day, from Epic Films, as a coproducer.

Production wrapped on season two of the children’s scripted series in Adelaide this week. The four-parter again stars Evie Macdonald as a transgender student at high school.

Originally commissioned by pubcaster the ABC and produced by South Australia’s Epic Films in association with Kojo Studios, the first season of First Day was previously acquired by Hulu for the US.
