Hulu grows true crime slate with ABC Signature’s Under the Bridge

US streamer Hulu has ordered a true crime limited series based on the 1997 murder of Canadian teenager Reena Virk.

The eight-part series, Under the Bridge, comes from ABC Signature and is executive produced by Samir Mehta and Liz Tigelaar, who will also serve as joint showrunners.

It is based on Canadian author Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 book about the murder of 14-year-old Virk, who went to a friend’s party and never returned home. Seven teenage girls and a boy were accused of the murder.

Also executive producing are Godfrey, Quinn Shephard, Stacey Silverman and Geeta Vasant Patel, who is also directing.

Mehta most recently served as a co-exec producer on Hulu’s Tell Me Lies and before that was a writer and producer on Fear the Walking Dead, The Sinner and Narcos. Patel, meanwhile, was a director on Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon, in addition to The Great, The Magicians, Runaways and Dead To Me.

Tigelaar’s Best Day Ever is under an overall deal at ABC Signature. The company is currently in production on the Hulu series Tiny Beautiful Things, starring Kathryn Hahn and based on Cheryl Strayed’s book.
