Hulu confirms new CEO

Hulu has confirmed the president of distribution at Fox Networks Group as its new CEO following a long search.

Mike Hopkins, who was linked to the post a week ago, joins the online TV service immediately and Andy Forssell, who has been acting CEO since March, is leaving.

The appointment comes after a period of upheaval that has seen Forssell, previously Hulu’s senior VP of content, taking over from Jason Kilar and owners Disney/ABC, NBCUniversal and Fox taking the company off the market.

Hopkins, who has been on the Hulu board since 2011, had been at Fox for five years, overseeing distribution strategy, sales and marketing for 45 linear and non-linear US channels as well as on-demand and digital extensions. His experience could help Hulu gain distribution and compete more aggressively with Netflix.

In a statement, Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president, of Disney/ABC Television Group, said Hopkins “has a strong understanding of programming, digital distribution and consumer behavior and a great vision for Hulu’s next chapter.”
