Hulu acquires PCCW drama The Season, Fremantle to rep series internationally

Jessie Mei Li

Disney-owned streamer Hulu has acquired US rights to the English-language, Hong Kong-set crime thriller The Season.

Produced by PCCW Media in partnership SK Global (Crazy Rich Asians, Delhi Crime), the six-part series was commissioned Hong Kong-based streamer Viu, which is carrying it as a Viu Original in 15 markets.

RTL Group-owned Fremantle has signed on as the international distributor, with support from LA-based De Maio Entertainment, and will launch sales at Mipcom next week.

The Season sees a newcomer joining a close-knit friend group during a summer when secrets are revealed and the line between ally and enemy blurs. The cast includes Jessie Mei Li, Karena Lam, Chris Pang, Justin Chien and Yvonne Chapman.

The series is created and executive produced by Yalun Tu, who previously co-created the Amazon Japan series My Undead Yokai Girlfriend, with Chile’s Marialy Rivas (The Jetty) serving as lead director and executive producer. Janice Lee and Agatha Lo are executive producers for PCCW Media, and Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi and Dylan Tarason for SK Global.
