High Point pushes sex trafficking

MIPCOM: UK movie and television distribution company High Point has scored a number of second season pre-sale deals for its sex trafficking series, Matrioshki.

Cuatro/Sogecable in Spain, LAPTV in Latin America and SBS in Australia have all signed pre-sale agreements for the series, which follows two gangsters released from jail who go in search of an associate on the lamb with their money.

As the plot thickens, the action spreads across the globe, moving from the seedy underworld of Thailand’s Pattaya resort to Belgium, into the Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania. The first season has been sold into 70 countries and, according to High Point director Julie Delaney, rated well.

“Having pre-sold a number of territories, we are expecting to finalise most other territories here at Mipcom,” said Delaney. “The series has excellent production values, including the glitz, glamour and tension of the first series, and has been compared to The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and 24.”
