Reporting to David Rhodes, Sky News Group executive chairman, she will be responsible for shaping and implementing the outfit’s editorial and creative strategy.

Full Story complements the broader commissioning strategy of Sky Documentaries with news-adjacent films for streaming and television.

The unit will also place a significant emphasis on forging partnerships with talent from across the documentary industry.

Sinnerton joins from HiddenLight Productions, where she served as creative director and senior VP of unscripted for the US- and UK-based prodco from Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and Sam Branson.

There she developed and executive produced documentaries including the Emmy-winning In Her Hands for Netflix.

In her previous role as commissioning editor for news and current affairs at UK pubcaster Channel 4, she commissioned Myanmar’s Killing Fields and For Sama, as well as a number of investigative films for factual programming strands Dispatches and Unreported World.

Rhodes said: “This new production unit with Siobhan Sinnerton at the helm will epitomise the premium offering from Sky News.

“We see tremendous editorial and commercial opportunities in long-form journalism online and on TV. We’re very fortunate to have Siobhan guiding and developing a slate of bold projects as the new creative director of Full Story Films.”

Sinnerton said: “I am delighted to be offered this incredible opportunity to make films that say something important about the tumultuous world we are living in.

“Pulling on the incredible journalism of Sky News and partnering with the best talent in the independent sector, I believe we can make powerful, emotional films that really connect with an audience.

“Sky has a great reputation for gaining access to the biggest stories or our time, and working with the UK and Ireland’s best directors, producers and editors, we aim to translate that into engaging premium documentaries that cut through the noise.”
