HBO orders more Vice

US premium cablenet HBO has renewed its irreverent news magazine show Vice for a further two seasons.

The show’s third season is slated to premiere in 2015 with 14 episodes, followed by a fourth season in 2016. The 14-episode order is an increase from the previous 12-episode seasons.

The series, exec produced by Shane Smith, Bill Maher and Eddy Moretti, follows the Vice team as they explore little-travelled parts of the world to uncover unusual stories.

Currently in its second season, Vice has so far covered topics ranging from US military waste to environmental destruction in Greenland.

The show is hosted by Smith, founder of the global youth media company of the same name.

The news comes as Vice gears up to launch sports channel – Vice Sports – ahead of the 2014 Football World Cup in Brazil, following on from the debut of food-focused FremantleMedia joint venture Munchies.
