HBO Max spotlights US soccer pay row

US streamer HBO Max has picked up LFG, a new documentary film telling the story of the US national women’s soccer team’s struggle for equal pay.

The film is produced by directors Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine, with Abby Greensfelder of US prodco Everywoman. Howard T Owens and Ben Silverman of Propagate Content are executive producers.

The film goes back to three months before the 2019 World Cup, when the US national team filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation demanding equal pay. Since winning the World Cup that year, their demands have yet to be met.

LFG is the third collaboration between HBO Max and US factual producer CNN Films on an original project, after recent US election doc On The Trail: Inside the 2020 Primaries and Persona: The Dark Truth Behind Personality Tests. Both are available on HBO Max.
