HBO Max sets out on third Doom Patrol

Doom Patrol launched on DC Comics’ OTT service DC Universe

HBO Max has ordered a third season of DC superhero drama Doom Patrol, produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.

Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of a group of characters described as “outcast superheroes” – Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led Dr Niles Caulder, also known as The Chief.

Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. The cast includes Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, Rita Farr, Diane Guerrero, Joivan Wade, Alan Tudyk and Timothy Dalton.

The drama launched in the US on DC Comics’ OTT service DC Universe in February last year, while both seasons are now available on WarnerMedia-owned HBO Max, which arrived in May.

“The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.

Jeremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Chris Dingess and Geoff Johns serve as executive producers. The series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani.

It is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros International Television Distribution and is available outside of the US on platforms such as StarzPlay in the UK.
