HBO Max reboots Sex & the City

Sex & the City stars Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis

HBO Max is reuniting Sex & the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis for a new series based on the hit show and book.

And Just Like That… (10×30′) is based on the book Sex & the City by Candice Bushnell and the TV series created by Darren Star, which aired on HBO between 1998 and 2004, later spawning a prequel on The CW and two feature films.

HBO Max has given a series order to the show, which is described as “a new chapter” of Sex & the City, and comes from executive producers Michael Patrick King, Parker, Davis and Nixon.

The new series, scheduled to begin production in New York in late spring, will follow Parker, Davis and Nixon’s characters as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.

In the show’s announcement, no mention is made of Kim Cattrall or her character in the show, Samantha Jones.

“I grew up with these characters and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.
