Titled Take Out, the show is presented by journalist Lisa Ling, whose own family’s roots in the US began in the restaurant business. Ling goes behind the scenes at some of the country’s 45,000 Asian eateries.

The series is produced by Brooklyn prodco Part2 Pictures, which also makes This Is Life With Lisa Ling. The CNN show has run for seven seasons so far, with an eighth in production.

Ling exec produces Take Out along with Part2 founder David Shadrack Smith.

Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, said: “With Take Out, we will pay tribute to the hard work and countless contributions of Asian Americans whose restaurants helped shape the cultural tapestry and cuisines of America. Lisa is one of a few storytellers who could paint the trials and triumphs of a community as told through the lens of a restaurant.”
