HBO Max brings together My Mom, Your Dad with Parks & Recreation pair

HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, has ordered a reality dating series created by The Office and Parks & Recreation’s Haley Daniels and Greg Daniels.

Sarah Aubrey

Produced by ITV Entertainment (Love Island, Queer Eye) in association with Rombola Entertainment, My Mom, Your Dad is the first unscripted series from the father and daughter duo and will be hosted by Insecure actor and comedian Yvonne Orji.

The series follows a group of single parents who have been nominated by their college-age kids for a second chance at love. The parents move into a house together, unaware that their adult children are right down the street living in a second house, watching their every move through hidden cameras and manipulating their encounters.

Along with Haley and Greg Daniels, executive producers are David Eilenberg, Simon Thomas, Bernie Schaeffer and showrunner Sam Dean (FBOY Island, 12 Dates of Christmas, Love is Blind).

Jennifer O’Connell, executive VP of non-fiction and live-action family at HBO Max, said: “Created by a father-daughter duo who represent the two generational perspectives in the show, the concept of My Mom, Your Dad is heartfelt, hilarious and cringeworthy. Greg’s comedic brilliance with Haley’s original ideas, combined with the unscripted expertise of ITV Entertainment and the multi-talented Yvonne Orji is sure to result in highly addictive viewing.”

In related news, HBO Max has also given an eight-episode order to professor Dr Brené Brown’s unscripted series, Atlas of the Heart, based on her book of the same name.

Produced by Weird Lucy Productions, Atlas of the Heart explores the range of emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human.

The executive producers are Brown for Weird Lucy Productions, Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager, Barb Bialkowski and Jared Morell for Den of Thieves. Meaghan Rady will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said: “At HBO Max, we pride ourselves on telling stories representative of all walks of life, and those stories would mean nothing without the language of emotion and the shared experience. By bringing Dr Brown’s extensive research to life through film, television and pop culture, we are able to demonstrate deep connection and insight that will resonate with our viewers.”
