HBO Max adopts Lucy the Human Chimp

Channel 4 commissioned Lucy the Human Chimp

WarnerMedia-owned US streamer HBO Max has picked up a UK feature documentary about a chimp that was raised as a human and its reintegration into the wild.

Lucy the Human Chimp was commissioned by commercially funded UK pubcaster Channel 4 from UK indie Keo Films.

The 1×90’ doc is being shopped globally by Hat Trick International, whose senior sales executive, Jonathan South, sealed the deal with HBO Max.

It recounts the story of a chimpanzee raised as a human in the US in the 1960s and the woman who took on the near impossible task of helping to give her freedom by living with her in the wild.

Directed by Alex Parkinson, the film uses previously unseen archive film and photographs as well as dramatic reconstruction.
