HBO Go orders Filipino crime drama On the Job for SE Asia

On the Job is directed by Erik Matti

WarnerMedia-owned VoD service HBO Go has greenlit a Filipino crime drama for its subscribers in South-East Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Produced by Reality Entertainment and Globe Studios, On the Job (6×60′) is a thriller about a crime syndicate run by politicians that temporarily releases prison inmates to carry out political assassinations.

It has been filmed in the Philippines and stars Joel Torre, Gerald Anderson, Dennis Trillo, Joey Marquez, Piolo Pascual, John Arcilla and Christopher De Leon.

Erik Matti created and directed the English- and Filipino- language limited series, which follows the 2013 feature film of the same name.

Matti executive produces along with Ronald ‘Dondon’ Monteverde, Joe Caliro and Quark Henares. The series will also air on HBO Asia after it premieres on HBO Go in September.

Matti was previously attached to produce an online series titled On the Job for South-East Asian VoD service Hooq, before it filed for liquidation in 2020.

Magdalene Ew, WarnerMedia’s head of content for entertainment for India, South-East Asia and Korea, said: “Since 2013, when part of the story was released theatrically, interest in this project has been really high. We’re so pleased to offer HBO Go audiences a first look at On the Job as a limited series, one of our first from the Philippines. It is the work of some of the country’s top creative and storytelling talent.”
