HBO Asia reveals original drama duo

Legacy has been created by Yu Zheng

APOS: WarnerMedia-owned HBO Asia has unveiled two original scripted series, a Chinese period drama and a copro with Hong Kong TV Entertainment (HKTVE)/ViuTV and Taiwan’s Catchplay.

The Chinese period drama is Legacy, a Mandarin-language show set in the 1920s and focusing on three sisters who compete to inherit their father’s shopping mall business.

Created by Yu Zheng, known for fellow Chinese period piece Story of Yanxi Palace, the show will premiere on HBO Asia and streaming service HBO Go later this year.

Magdalene Ew, WarnerMedia’s head of content for South-East Asia, said: “We’ve been ramping up our Mandarin series recently and Legacy promises to be a binge-worthy addition to our growing originals slate. It’s one of those shows that has truly something for everyone. It promises intrigue, suspense and romance, all with the backdrop of a fascinating time in China’s history.”

Trinity of Shadows (15×60’) is the copro with HKTVE/ViuTV and Catchplay. The show will premiere on June 13 on HBO Go and HBO Asia, with Catchplay simulcasting the series on its streaming service Catchplay+.

Produced by David Tang, Trinity of Shadows stars three Taiwanese actors and revolves around an investigation into a murder that is very similar to a cold case from three years ago.

WarnerMedia has worked with Catchplay before, partnering on Taiwanese drama series The World Between Us in 2019.

The commissions were revealed as the annual Singapore-based APOS media industry conference got underway in digital form today.
