Gutsy Animations’ Marion Edwards leaves to return to consulting

Marion Edwards, managing director of Moominvalley producer Gutsy Animations’ UK arm, has left the Finland- and UK-based prodco and is returning to her former role as a children’s media consultant.

Edwards joined Gutsy Animations’ UK team in 2020, having worked as a consultant for the prior three years.

Before that, she was a production exec at DreamWorks Animation for two years. Edwards started her career in 2000 at European 2D animation studio Telemagination, following which she worked at Red & Blue Productions and HIT Entertainment.

Gutsy Animations’ Finnish arm is led by chief commercial officer and the company’s founder Marika Makaroff.

Posting on LinkedIn, Edwards said: “Very excited to be back in the world of consultancy after five years of exec producing Moominvalley for Sky UK. The industry has changed dramatically, but I believe my experience of large-scale animation coproductions is now even more relevant due to the tightening of budgets and schedules.

“One of the most interesting aspects of my recent work has been successfully gaining Albert certification for two series – something that needs to be encouraged more within our industry.

“I’ve also gained invaluable experience negotiating post-pandemic working patterns, navigating the tricky path between staff engagement and a better work-life balance.”
