GroupM’s Motion Content sets out to make Positive Impact with fund

Motion Content’s The Circle for Netflix

Media investment company GroupM’s Motion Content Group has launched a new fund aimed at creative positive change in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and sustainability.

The Positive Impact fund, developed in collaboration with GroupM agencies and clients, will support documentaries, high-end TV drama, other series and films that inspire positive change.

London- and LA-headquartered Motion Content Group said it plans to work with media owners, producers, networks, platforms and creatives to identify and develop eligible projects, with the goal of empowering talent from underrepresented backgrounds alongside more established voices.

The fund is part of a larger move by its parent company WPP to make positive long-term contributions to society and the environment.

Earlier this year, Motion Content Group launched the Diverse Voices Accelerator, which falls under the Positive Impact fund, in the US. The fund will now launch in the UK, followed by additional markets in 2022.

Motion Content Group currently operates in more than 30 countries. The company has been involved in productions including Channel 4 docs Dementiaville and The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes, sci-fi drama Intergalactic (Sky), natural history series The Pacific (Channel 5) and entertainment formats such as Love Island and The Circle.

Motion Content Group also recently hired Deep Sehgal as its new global head of DEI. Sehgal will be involved in coordinating the fund’s international roll-out.
