Brazil’s Globoplay, TV JOJ and C More unearth Gold Diggers from Oble

Moscow-set thriller Gold Diggers

CONTENT LONDON: Brazilian streamer Globoplay is among three buyers to pick up Russian thriller Gold Diggers from Oble as the Paris-based producer-distributor closes a number of deals.

Oble has licensed over 60 hours of content to Globoplay, Brazil’s largest video streaming platform, as well as to broadcasters including TV JOJ in Slovakia and Walter Presents via C More in the Nordics.

All three buyers have picked up three seasons of Gold Diggers (24×52’), Start Studios’ drama that follows Detective Lena Shirakova (Darya Moroz) as she’s tasked with investigating a murder in the underbelly of Moscow’s glamorous super-wealthy elite.

Oble has also sold Start’s crime thriller A Good Man to Walter Presents Nordics and TV JOJ. First broadcast in Russia in 2020, A Good Man (9×52’) is inspired by a real-life manhunt for the ‘Maniac of Angarsk,’ Russia’s most prolific and brutal serial-killer and rapist who was responsible for murdering over 80 women between 1992 and 2012. The series is based on writer and showrunner Irina Sosvanaya’s extensive research and interviews with the real protagonist, Mikhail Popkov.

TV JOJ has also acquired French-Canadian series The Outbreak (Epidemie). The 10-part thriller from Sphere Media is set in present-day Montreal where a highly contagious, deadly virus is rampaging through a vulnerable group of ostracised homeless people. The series has previously been sold into Japan, Russia, Middle East and Turkey.

Katia Sol, general manager and co-founder of Oble, said: “Great storytelling crosses language boundaries as well as cultural ones, and these outstanding series from Russia and French-Canada are perfect illustrations of this. We’re delighted that Brazilian, Slovakian and Nordic audiences will have the opportunity to see these fantastic shows.”
