João Roberto Marinho, who is also president of Globo’s board of directors, has been named as the next executive president of Globo Group, which consists of Globo Communications, Globo’s publishing business, Globo Radio System, Globo Ventures and the Roberto Marinho Foundation.

He will assume the post from the outgoing Nóbrega, who holds the dual position of executive president of Globo and Globo Group.

Paulo Marinho, the current executive director of Globo’s channels business, will take the role of Globo president. Globo, which sits under the Globo Group, comprises the free-to-air channel TV Globo, 26 pay TV channels, SVoD and streaming platform Globoplay, its digital products, news website G1 and sports website GE.globo.

Both appointments are effective as of February 1, 2022, with the company spending the next three and a half months executing the succession plan that was first initiated in September 2018.

During Nóbrega’s time as head of Globo Group, he oversaw a strategic realignment of the company that brought together TV Globo, Globosat, Globo.com, Globoplay, DGCorp and Som Livre, which was recently sold to Sony Music, under the single brand name Globo.

He joined Globo Group in 1996 and was elevated to executive president in 2017, making him the first person outside of the Marinho family to hold the position. While he is stepping down from his dual role as president of Globo and Globo Group, Nóbrega will continue to serve on the Globo Group board.
