Global Screen issues invites to The Palace

Filming on The Palace wrapped last week

Telepool-owned German distributor Global Screen is shopping forthcoming period drama The Palace, which has now completed filming ahead of its premiere next year.

The six-part series, produced by Constantin Television in association with German pubcaster ZDF, began filming in Poland last November and wrapped in Berlin last week.

Described as an emotive, musical and suspense-filled family story, it pays homage to the largest show stage in the world, Berlin’s Friedrichstadt-Palast, which is the setting for a fictional drama for the first time in its 100-year history.

Set in 1988, the story centres on dancer Chris, who is at the Palast preparing for a birthday show to mark the 40th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). After Chris is confronted by Marlene, the twin sister she never knew she had, the two decide to switch lives, deceiving their families, friends and colleagues while being pushed to their emotional limits as they take enormous political risks to embark on the adventure of a lifetime

Uli Edel (Christiane F, The Master Butcher) directs, while the scripts are written by creative producer Rodica Doehnert (Hotel Sacher). Svenja Jung (Deutschland 89) plays both Chris and Marlene.

Global Screen has worldwide rights to the series, which is due to debut in 2022.
