Gladys Knight partners with Cineflix Productions on biopic miniseries

Music artist, actress, producer and humanitarian Gladys Knight

CONTENT LONDON: Canada’s Cineflix Productions has partnered with Gladys Knight’s Empress of Soul Productions on a returnable drama miniseries based on the life and career of the Grammy Award-winning artist, actress, producer and humanitarian.

Georgia-born Knight began singing gospel at the age of four and eventually formed the legendary group Gladys Knight & The Pips, which went on to have numerous number-one hits including Midnight Train To Georgia, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and That’s What Friends Are For.

Now 78 and with more than five decades in music, film, TV and humanitarian work behind her, Knight said the partnership with Cineflix would allow her to share her life story.

She said: “All my life I’ve been able to sing my stories. I can now use this opportunity to show the meaning behind the words… That alone is greater than any award I could ever receive. It’s important to leave large footprints that go in the right direction.”

Executive producers on the scripted miniseries include Knight, William McDowell, Joyce Miller Roy, William Bickley, Carl Buehl and Brian Bird. Camille Tucker will exec produce for Empress of Soul Productions, with JC Mills, Sherri Rufh and Jeff Vanderwal for Cineflix Productions.

The announcement was made on the final day of Content London. Elsewhere today Cineflix Rights, the company’s London-based distribution arm, has added the sales rights to French Canadian scripted series Bon matin Chuck (Good Morning Chuck) to its slate.

The new French-language scripted series from the multi-award-winning co-director of C’est comme ça que je t’aime (Happily Married) is coproduced by St-Laurent TV and Connect3 Media for Crave in Canada.

Good Morning Chuck (10×60’) is a dramatic comedy series about Chuck, the beloved host of the morning show Bon matin, un café?, who finds himself on the front page of all the newspapers and gossip magazines after a scandal involving his drug and alcohol addiction erupts.
