Gibney, Lee front HBO doc slate

US net HBO has unveiled its slate of documentaries for the second half of 2010, fronted by new efforts from acclaimed directors Alex Gibney and Spike Lee, and featuring Teenage Paparazzo, the anticipated film from Entourage star Adrian Genier.

The line-up is headlined by If God Is Willing & Da Creek Don’t Rise, Lee’s four-hour follow-up to his Emmy-winning 2006 doc When The Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. The doc will premiere over two nights on August 23 and 24, and sees Lee revisiting New Orleans five years after Hurricane Katrina.

Elsewhere, Gibney’s My Trip To Al-Qaeda sees the director teaming up with Pulitzer-winning author Lawrence Wright for a project based on Wright’s book The Looming Tower and focusing on fundamentalist Islam.

The Fence, meanwhile, from filmmaker Rory Kennedy, investigates the impact of the 700-mile fence built by the US government along the Mexican border; while the aforementioned Teenage Paparazzo chronicles the relationship between Grenier and a 14-year-old paparazzo and looks at celebrity culture.

Finally, Sins Of My Father promises the inside story of Pablo Escobar, as told through the eyes of the infamous drug lord’s son; Tribeca-winner Monica & David explores the marriage of two adults with Down syndrome; Wartorn 1861-2010 explores combat stress and post-traumatic stress in the military throughout American history; Public Speaking focuses on New York writer Fran Lebowitz; and Wishful Drinking offers an adaptation of actor Carrie Fisher’s autobiographical stage production.
