Germany’s Mainstream Media adds trio of drama and sport FAST channels

German media company Mainstream Media has launched three free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels, called Filmgold, Strong Women and World of Freesports.

The company, which is best known for its pay TV offerings Heimatkanal, Goldstar TV and Romance TV, made the announcement as part of its 15th anniversary celebrations.

Filmgold offers family entertainment with stars such as Uschi Glas, Mario Adorf, Tobias Moretti, Maximilian Schell or Rudi Carrell and is aimed at lovers of nostalgia and classic films.

Strong Women focuses on films featuring respected women actors such as Laura Linney and Jennifer Love Hewitt. In addition, it will show US series such as The Big C, Drop Dead Diva, My Boys, Hawthorne and The Client List.

World of Freesports is for fans of action and outdoor sports, including mountain bike racing, skiing and snowboarding events, as well as climbing tours and motor sports.

The three FAST channels complement the firm’s existing Goldstar TV Plus channel, which has been available for four years via Samsung TV Plus and other sources.

Mainstream CEO Tim Werner said: “With our new FAST channels, we want to address viewers who can use the offer free of charge on digital TV platforms and via mobile applications.”
