Germany’s Beta Group, Australia’s SBS ink multi-year extension to licensing pact

German period drama Sisi is included in the deal

Germany’s Beta Group and Australian pubcaster SBS have inked a multi-year extension to their existing licensing pact under which the broadcaster acquires TV and film programming from Beta’s catalogue.

The extended agreement includes 12×60’ German series Sisi from Story House Pictures, RTL and Beta Film, and 8×60’ Spanish crime drama El Inmortal – Gangs of Madrid from Movistar Plus+, Telemundo International Studios and DLO Producciones.

Other projects included in the deal are period drama House of Promises, crime series Divided We Stand, murder drama Breaking Point, coming-of-age soccer story Golden Boy and Greek suspense thriller Silent Road.

Through the pact, SBS will also have access to titles such as biographical limited series De Gaulle, season three of The Wall, feature film My Little Sister and First World War thriller feature Hinterland.

“This multi-year licensing deal has firmly cemented our relationship with SBS, our longstanding partner in Australia,” said Nikolaus Sivaloganathan, Beta’s VP of international sales and acquisitions for Asia, Australia and New Zealand. “We are excited to bring even more high-end content to an audience that truly appreciates unique European stories made for the global market.”

Peter Andrews, head of network programming at SBS, added that the broadcaster’s audiences “love to dive into drama that explores cultures, languages and compelling stories, and our partnership with Beta continues to deliver all that and more for Australians.”
