Germany’s ARD sails into a Perfect Storm with Canada’s KO, Aroma TV

Perfect Storm follows a single mother raising three children

MIPCOM: Quebec-based KO Distribution has signed a broadcast deal with German public broadcaster ARD for the comedy series Perfect Storm, originally produced for SRC, the French-language arm of CBC.

The agreement, brokered in partnership with Aroma TV and its CEO Barbara Vallant, gives ARD the rights to the first season of the series, with an option for future seasons and a forthcoming feature film spin-off.

The French-Canadian series has already enjoyed widespread international success, having previously been licensed to France (France TV, iDipper), RTV Slo in Slovenia, RTBF in Belgium and TV5 World.

Now in production on its sixth season, Perfect Storm follows a 39-year-old single mother juggling the competing demands of parenting three children, maintaining a career, navigating an ex-husband and managing a complicated love life. Described as “a series about the mental strain endured by strong and modern female characters,” it has been praised for its witty and authentic portrayal of contemporary family life, striking a balance between humour and heartfelt realism.

Mia Desroches, VP of global sales and partnerships at KO Distribution, said: “This series is a perfect example of the universally relatable stories we aim to distribute. Its honest portrayal of the joys and challenges of modern life, combined with its sharp wit, makes it a perfect fit for a broadcaster as esteemed as ARD.”

Alexander Milanes, deputy managing editor of digital entertainment channel One at ARD, added: “We are exceptionally pleased to have obtained this distinguished series for One and ARD. The creation of the German-language version proved to be an extremely fun endeavour. We value the series immensely and trust that our audience will experience the same level of enthusiasm.”
