Germaine Sweet steps up to head acquisitions and sales at PBS Distribution

Germaine Sweet and Joe Barrett

Germaine Sweet has been promoted to head of content acquisitions and sales at US factual sales house PBS Distribution, succeeding the soon-to-retire Joe Barrett.

Based in Arlington, Virginia, her previous title was managing director. Sweet’s newly expanded role will see her continue in that capacity while also taking on leadership of international programme sales, creating an integrated approach across acquisitions, co-finance and sales.

She has been with PBS Distribution for more than nine years, helping to develop and execute the company’s drama investment strategy.

Prior to that, Sweet served as senior VP of global content sales and operations at National Geographic Channels.

She now takes over PBS’s international sales team from Barrett, who will retire at the end of March after serving as VP of global sales.

Sweet will attend the London TV Screenings later this month, where the company will shop premium factual titles such as Rain Bombs (1×60’), Athens: Birth of Democracy (1×60’), Mystery of the First Temple (1×60’) and The Real Truth (6×60’).

Barrett said: “Our partners and clients are in very good hands with Germaine. She has a deep understanding of both our content and the international marketplace, and I’m confident she will continue to build on the strong foundations our team has created.”

Sweet said: “PBS Distribution has a world-class catalogue and strong global partnerships, and I look forward to strengthening our international reach while supporting our producers and partners worldwide.”
