McCarthy, who is also head of programming for sister cablenet FYI, is exiting after 10 years with A+E to “pursue new creative adventures.”

McCarthy initially joined Lifetime in 2010 as senior VP of reality and alternative. She had a stint as content chief of FYI before returning to Lifetime three years ago.

Her credits down the years have included Dance Moms and Project Runway, following its move from rival Bravo. McCarthy currently oversees an unscripted slate at Lifetime that includes global format hit Married at First Sight, Bride & Prejudice and Love at First Flight.

The exec has also driven the channel into the hard-hitting event doc space, with Surviving Jeffrey Epstein making headlines around the world.

Prior to joining Lifetime, McCarthy was senior VP of development and production for Discovery Channel and VP of development and production at WE tv.

Paul Buccieri, president of A+E Networks, said: “Gena is an exceptional person and creative executive. We thank her for her leadership and for her many lasting contributions to the company, and wish her ongoing success.”
