Gazzolo, Mazón upped as TelevisaUnivision doubles down on streaming with ViX

CONTENT AMERICAS: Spanish-language media giant TelevisaUnivision has made a pair of key executive promotions as it intensifies its focus on fast-growing streaming service ViX.

Pierluigi Gazzolo

Pierluigi Gazzolo, formerly the president and chief transformation officer of TelevisaUnivision, has been promoted to CEO of ViX, C21 has learned exclusively.

With the promotion, Gazzolo will now focus all his attention on the ViX streaming platform, which went live with its AVoD offering in March 2022 before the SVoD service launched in July.

In addition, Rodrigo Mazón, previously the executive VP and general manager of SVoD at TelevisaUnivision, has been elevated to exec VP and chief content officer of ViX. In his expanded role, we will focus on both AVoD and SVoD.

The promotions are a reflection of the growing importance of TelevisaUnivision’s streaming business, which has taken centre stage over the past 18 months as ViX+ has commissioned more than 60 original titles.

Rodrigo Mazón

Both Gazzolo and Mazón are taking part in Content Americas, C21’s new Spanish-language-focused conference which begins in Miami on Tuesday and runs through Thursday.

Gazzolo is taking part in a keynote conversation on Tuesday where he will lay out his vision for the future of TelevisaUnivision’s streaming business, while Mazón will participate in a commissioning trends panel, also on Tuesday.

Gazzolo joined TelevisaUnivision in early 2021 after previously serving as president of streaming and studios at ViacomCBS Networks International.

Mazón joined TelevisaUnivision in 2021 having served as VP of content at Netflix. Before joining Netflix in 2015, Mazón was director of content acquisition at Hulu.

Rafael Urbina will assume the role of chief operating officer at ViX. He will focus on all business operations for AVoD and SVoD, in addition to his work managing TelevisaUnivision’s digital business.

Both Urbina and Mazon will report to Gazzolo.
