Gay Russian period drama Red Rainbow wins Series Mania copro pitch

SERIES MANIA: Russian period drama Red Rainbow has won the annual Series Mania Co-Pro Pitching Sessions, a competition between 15 projects held on the first day of the Lille-based TV conference.

Red Rainbow (8×50’) is set in 1979 and is about three gay men from West Germany who go on an official trip to Moscow, unaware that homosexuality is a crime in the Soviet Union. The series is made by Russia’s Non-Stop Productions and written by Matt Jones.

Jury members included Daniel Campos Pavoncelli, head of film and TV at Milan’s Indiana Production, France Télévisions’ VP of digital scripted Sened Dhab, Spanish pubcaster RTV’s fiction executive producer Mar Diaz and Maria Feldman, producer at New York prodco Masha.

The winner was announced by professional jury president Polly Williams and Laurence Herzberg, founder of Series Mania.
