Gaumont US gets Writer’s Block as it preps Spanish version of Canadian comedy format

Writer’s Block follows TV showrunners who delve into the world of crime in the name of research

The US arm of French producer Gaumont is adapting Canadian comedy series Writer’s Block into a Spanish-language version.

Writer’s Block tells the story of two TV showrunners who find themselves at the end of their creative ropes. Following the colossal failure of their far-fetched crime drama series, they are compelled by their producers to make another season.

Determined to regain their reputations and dispel the idea they are shallow researchers, they embark on a quest to acquire genuine criminal experiences that will infuse S2 with authenticity.

Gaumont US has picked up the rights to the format from Amuz Distribution, marking the first deal for the Quebec-based comedy distributor since it rebranded from ComediHa! Distribution last month.

The deal also marks the first sale of the Writer’s Block IP in over a decade. Gaumont’s Latin America team, based in LA, will oversee the adaptation.
