Gateley exit sparks Lifetime reshuffle

The executive VP and head of programming at A+E Networks-owned US cablenet Lifetime is stepping down, with her duties being added to the role of sister network FYI’s programming chief.

Liz Gateley is leaving the post she took up in 2015 to spend more time with her family, the network has confirmed.

The departure will see Gena McCarthy, currently executive VP of programming for fellow A+E Networks channel FYI, add oversight of Lifetime’s unscripted content to her responsibilities.

McCarthy was previously senior VP of reality and alternative programming at Lifetime before switching networks. Her title will now change again to executive VP and head of programming for Lifetime unscripted and head of programming for FYI.

The reshuffle also includes a promotion for Tanya Lopez, who has been upped from senior VP of original movies at Lifetime to executive VP of movies, limited series and original movie acquisitions for Lifetime and LMN.

McCarthy and Lopex will report to Paul Buccieri, president of A+E Studios and A+E Networks Portfolio Group, and Rob Sharenow, president of programming for A+E Networks.

Gateley began her career at Lifetime on its development team before launching Teen Wolf producer DiGa with MTV programming boss Tony DiSanto in 2011. The company was later bought by ITV Studios and Gateley returned to the buyer side of the table with Lifetime in 2015.
