FX, Hulu link with New York Times

US cablenet FX and Disney-owned streamer Hulu are partnering with The New York Times for a 10-part docuseries.

The New York Times Presents is billed as a follow-up to FX’s previous collaboration with the newspaper, The Weekly.

Like that show, it is being produced by Red Arrow Studios-owned US prodco Left/Right. It will premiere this Friday with a first episode capturing the work of medical staff in New York at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ten individual documentaries will then air monthly on FX on Fridays at 22.00. The series will explore breaking news, investigations and character-driven stories, featuring reporting from journalists at The New York Times.

Other topics include a profile of young musician Dominic Fike ahead of his first international tour, and a documentary on the killing of Breonna Taylor by police in Louisville. Award-winning director and producer Yoruba Richen and New York Times reporter Rukmini Callimachi, a four-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, are partnering on a film that will explore Taylor’s life and investigate the circumstances of her death.

The announcement was made by Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment.

Red Arrow Studios International will hold global distribution rights.
