FX builds its own Bridge

US cablenet FX has greenlit its own version of Scandi drama The Bridge, marking the second remake of the series following a bilingual UK-France copro.

The Bridge

Set on the US-Mexico border, The Bridge (13×60′) centres on two detectives, one from the US and one from Mexico, who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the border.

Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid will write and produce the series, which will star Diane Kruger alongside Demián Bichir in the cop roles.

FX ordered a pilot last year and will coproduce the series with Shine America, while Shine International will handle distribution.

“There have been great films set in that world – No Country for Old Men and Lone Star come to mind – but never a great TV series. This one is special,” said John Landgraf, president and general manager, FX Networks. “The setting, the writing, the direction, and the way it is brought to life by Demián Bichir, Diane Kruger and the rest of the cast makes for truly riveting drama.”

The original series, Broen, was produced by Shine Group’s Filmlance and Denmark’s Nimbus Film Production and went out via Sweden’s SVT and Denmark’s DR.

It is also being remade as The Tunnel (10×60′) for the UK and France, as part of a bilingual coproduction alliance between Kudos Film and TV and Shine France Films, struck last month.
