Funding body Screen Australia adds AIDC alumni Burgin and Valmadre to doc team

Funding agency Screen Australia has bolstered its documentary unit by appointing two former Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) executives, Alice Burgin and Lauren Valmadre.

Both join the national body as investment and development managers reporting to head of documentary Richard Huddleston.

Burgin is well known in the documentary sector after spending six years at as conference director and CEO, overseeing project funds, skills and project development, and elevating emerging documentary makers and their projects.

A documentary maker in her own right, she also-co founded Frame, an independent incubator designed to support non-fiction Australian storytellers and also served at production company Sweetshop & Green as executive producer for four years.

Burgin’s international career includes working at global film festivals, most recently as head of industry at Visions du Réel and the International Film Festival in Switzerland, and has worked as programmer at the Tribeca Film Festival

Valmarde joins Screen Australia from her current role as AIDC’s industry manager, having also served as conference programmer. She has previously worked at distributor Umbrella Entertainment as a sales manager and at Level K in Denmark.
