Funding agency Screen Flanders backs forthcoming New8 drama The Dark Ones

Screen Flanders has contributed €250,000 towards Die Düsteren (The Dark Ones)

Belgian regional funding agency Screen Flanders is investing €2m (US$2.3m) in seven audiovisual productions, including a forthcoming project from European broadcasting collective New8.

Screen Flanders is contributing €250,000 towards The Dark Ones (Die Düsteren, 6×45′), which was unveiled by New8 earlier this year at Series Mania.

Produced by Network Movie and Studio Zentral for ZDF in Germany, it is about the dangerous beings that invade people’s lives on an island in the North Sea.

Screen Flanders has also given €400,000, the maximum amount of support awarded as part of its latest call for projects, to Ten Little Monks (8×50′).

Created by Sanne Nuyens (The Twelve, Beau Sejour), Sabine Lubbe Bakker and Niels van Koevorden (Becoming Mona), it is set within a peaceful Trappist community of 10 monks who unwittingly create a beer proclaimed the best in the world. However, their success turns out to be a poisoned chalice, opening the gates to capitalism.

The other two series Screen Flanders is supporting are Die Flut (The Flood), which is getting €220,000, and Beats of Love, which is receiving €230,000.

Screen Flanders is also supporting three feature films: Le Faux Soir, Mary Rose and Ploey 2 – The Legend of the Winds.

The seven supported projects are expected to generate more than €15.7m euros in eligible audiovisual expenditure in the Flanders Region.
