Fresh Prince, SNL, Hacks exec Jerry DiCanio retires after three decades at Universal TV

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot Bel-Air

Veteran US executive Jerry DiCanio is set to step down from his role as Universal Television’s head of production after 31 years with the company.

DiCanio is retiring to spend more time with his family following a career that has seen him shepherd hit shows such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, The Office and Will & Grace.

He joined Universal in 1994 when it was still called NBC Studios, initially serving as VP, production operations and finance. One of his first shows with the studio was Will Smith-fronted comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and he later oversaw production on drama series Bel-Air, a re-imagined version of the sitcom.

DiCanio currently oversees more than 40 comedies and dramas, including long-running sketch show Saturday Night Live, Hacks and Loot. Prior to joining Universal, he served as senior VP of finance at Viacom Productions.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
