Fresh One debuts in Mid East

Jamie Oliver’s Fresh One Productions is to make an Arabic-language kids’ show mixing science fiction and food for Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC).

The Flying Saucer (25×30′) marks Fresh One’s first commission outside the UK and US and will fit in with the prodco’s socially conscious programming focus, a spokesman told C21. The show follows Laith, the captain of the Health Food Task Force, who travels the universe in a space ship encouraging children and families to eat good food.

The show was commissioned by JCC’s head of marketing Malika Alouane and filming has begun in Doha, Qatar. It is being executive produced by Mark Robson. There are currently no plans for an English-language version.

Fresh One has also made its first hire since MD Roy Ackerman took charge of the indie last year, appointing Betty TV’s David Wise (Adopt Me, Freaky Eaters) as creative director.

In his new role, Wise will oversee development of factual, format and entertainment, working alongside head of operations Jo Ralling and managing executive producer Zoe Collins.
