French-speaking pubcasters help grow ecology-focused animated comedy

Harrison & Me focuses on ecology and reconnecting with nature

Public broadcasters France Télévisions and TV5 in France and RTS in Switzerland are on board an animated series based on books about a ‘zero waste’ family from French animation studios Superprod and Vivement Lundi.

Harrison & Me (52×11′) is a 2D animated comedy for five-to-eight-year-olds focusing on ecology and reconnecting with nature, loosely based on the book The Zero Waste Family by Bénédicte Moret and Jérémie Pichon.

The producers said the series, which follows a group of friends who take care of a talking vegetable creature, is designed to raise awareness among young viewers of the need to respect the environment and take action on a daily basis.

The series is currently being produced in Charente and Brittany in France and is supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Charente Department, the Brittany Region and Rennes Métropole.

Aurélie Angebault, Camille Serceau, Nathalie Dargent and Matthieu Chevalier are among the creatives working on the show, which will be distributed internationally by Superprod’s sister company Superights.

Serceau, producer at Superprod Animation, saod: “This series represents a new chapter in our mission to create series that entertain but also inspire young minds. We firmly believe that this new production will not only captivate children, but also encourage them to reflect on their relationship with nature and their impact on the environment.”

Angebault, producer at Vivement Lundi, added the series combines humour and ecological awareness.

Jean-Baptiste Lamotte, head of children’s programming and animation at France Télévisions, said the series “questions our relationship with nature and helps us to adopt the right eco-citizen gestures.”
