French Shoppers head for UK

Thinking Violets, the UK indie launched by former ITV Studios director of formats Remy Blumenfeld, is partnering with French producer Herve Hubert to take a Gallic shopping format across the channel.

French version of Shopping Queens airs on M6

Blumenfeld and Hubert are partnering to adapt Shopping Queens/Shopping Kings for the UK market.

The French version has aired for more than 500 episodes on commercial channel M6 since 2013, almost doubling its share in the time slot from 7.8% to 12.2%.

Hosted by Cristina Cordula, the format sees five women or five men go shopping for an outfit for different special occasions. Each contestant is showcased in one episode where they have just three hours to blow their allocated budget before walking down the catwalk to be given marks by their four rivals.

In France, Shopping Kings and Shopping Queens air on separate weeks. However, Blumenfeld and Hubert are hoping to create a mixed-gender version for the UK in which men and women compete, and they are now planning to pitch the series to local broadcasters.

Hubert is one of France’s leading independent producers with more than 6,000 hours of programming to his credit, including the French adaptations of Let’s Make A Deal, Wheel of Fortune, Deal or No Deal and The Price Is Right.
