Digital channels operator Frederator Network has struck an exclusive first-look deal with news and entertainment brand Buzzfeed.

Under the pact, Frederator Network will get first right of refusal to develop and produce longform series based on animated content created by Buzzfeed Animation Lab.

Frederator Network is a division of Canada’s Wow Unlimited Media, which is part of LA-headquartered Genius Brands International.

The first shortform project being developed under the deal is The Land of Boggs, a buddy comedy that currently boasts over 10 million followers. Other content “under consideration” for longform development includes The Good Advice Cupcake, low-brow sister comedy Weird Helga and gender inclusive series Chikn Nuggit.

Frederator Studios will serve as sales agent for the content globally, with director of development Isabel Schultz overseeing. Genius Brands’ consumer products division will develop the retail programme for individual projects in partnership with BuzzFeed.

“Our partnership with BuzzFeed offers Frederator a tremendous opportunity to expand on the creativity of their animation lab to further develop their original IP into longform series for global audiences,” said Michael Hirsh, CEO of Wow Unlimited Media.

Zee Myers, head of BuzzFeed Animation Lab, added: “The BuzzFeed Animation Lab has seen huge success and explosive growth for our animated properties, and we are thrilled to partner with Frederator Studios for development.”
