France’s Newen Connect brings manga classic Cat’s Eyes to Cannes

Cat’s Eyes is produced by Paris-based prodco Big Band Story

French distributor Newen Connect is bringing Cat’s Eyes, the action drama inspired by the cult manga comics of Tsukasa Hojo and pre-bought by buyers in Germany and Italy, to Mipcom in Cannes next month.

Cat’s Eyes (8×52′) is produced by Paris-based prodco Big Band Story for original commissioner TF1, which shares a parent company in TF1 Group with Newen Connect.

German pubcaster ZDF and Italy’s Rai pre-bought the series earlier this year. Prime Video also has a second window in France and first window in Latin America and Japan.

Cat’s Eyes stars Camille Lou (Women at War), Contance Labbé (Balthazar), and Claire Romain (Where It All Begins) as the Chamade sisters Tam, Sylvia and Alexia, who attempt to steal back a lost work of art that belonged to their father.

It joins other titles across scripted, unscripted and kids and family in the Newen Connect slate, alongside Clapperboard and Pale Rebel Productions’ drama series The Teacher and political thriller In the Shadows, based on the novel by Edouard Philippe and Gilles Boyer.

Newen Connect is also bringing police procedurals Carpe Diem and Flashback, as well as murder mystery Erica, based on the novel by Camilla Läckberg.

Unscripted titles include 0 to 9: The Secret History of Numbers, exploring the genesis and history of our numeral systems; Maya: The Demise of an Empire, charting what may have caused the fall of one of the world’s most advanced civilizations; and Africa vs Western Powers: The Underside of a Divorce, which explores tensions between Africa and former colonial European powers.

Its kids and family titles include Tall & Small’s animated adventure series Flora & Lars and animated action adventure Luna & Loops, from Blue Spirit Productions.

Coproduction and pre-financing will also be up for discussion, including two further kids titles from Blue Spirit: The Borrowers, due in Q4 2025 and already available for pre-sales, as well as the third season of preschool animation, Alice & Lewis, inspired by the children’s classic Alice in Wonderland.
