France TV, Banijay prep MH370 miniseries

Distributor Banijay Rights has teamed up with French indie Alef One and public broadcaster France Télévisions for a miniseries about missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Flight MH370 is partly based on the book by Ghyslain Wattrelos

Flight MH370 is a 6×52′ drama exploring the disappearance of the aircraft somewhere over the South China Sea in 2014.

It is based on a book by Ghyslain Wattrelos, whose wife and two children were on board the flight, as well as a book by journalist Florence de Changy, who investigated the disappearance.

Alef One is producing the predominantly English-language series, which will be broadcast in France by France Télévisions. Banijay Rights holds distribution rights.

Gilles Bannier (Tin Star) is showrunner, while Nora Melhi (The Tunnel, Riviera) and Nadine Nohr (Broadchurch) exec produce. Tim Loane (Versailles) and Laurent Mercier (Eden) are the show’s writers.

“This is a gripping, real-life drama that has impacted many – in Europe, Asia and the Americas – for more than five years. We are looking forward to discussing the series with leading international broadcasters who are keen to partner on a scripted production that has a truly global perspective,” said Caroline Torrance, head of scripted at Banijay Rights.
