France Télévisions, Fremantle’s Ouija boarded by streamer Starzplay

Oujia cast members Ophelia Kolb, Katharina Schüttler and Stefan Konarske

Lionsgate-owned global streaming service Starzplay has boarded Ouija, the latest drama from Thomas Bourguignon (Baron Noir) and Jörg Winger (Deutschland 83/86/89).

Public broadcaster France Télévisions and European production group Fremantle launched the project which has now started principal photography in Nice, France.

The supernatural coming-of-age story focuses on events surounding a French-German school exchange in rural France during the 1982 World Cup.

The six-part series is executive produced by Winger (Deutschland83/86/89, Hackerville, SOKO Leipzig) for his German prodco Big Window, which is part of UFA Fiction, and Stéphanie Carrère for Fremantle-owned French prodco Kwaï (Baron Noir, The Last Wave, A Son).

The cast includes Ophelia Kolb, Katharina Schüttler, Thomas Sarbacher and Stefan Konarske.

It will be Starzplay’s second French-language coproduction, released for a first run in Germany and German-speaking Europe, including Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg, plus Spain, the Nordics and second-run distribution in France.

The coproduction was brokered by Jamie Lynn, exec VP of coproduction and distribution at Fremantle.
