Fox Networks Group (FNG) has restructured its executive team in Africa and brought in a former CNBC Africa executive as its general manager.

Gary Alfonso will have strategic and operational responsibility for the sub-Saharan operations of FNG and non-fiction specialists National Geographic Partners.

He joins FNG having recently been chief operating officer for African broadcaster Gotel Communications and previously held roles as MD of CNBC Africa and general manager for Summit TV.

Alfonso will join the organisation on August 29 and reports to Adam Theiler, FNG’s exec VP for the Nordics, Turkey, Greece, Israel and Africa.

Alfonso’s appointment comes after Ratna Siriah, who was appointed to the role in November last year, returned to Indian broadcaster Zee Entertainment after spending less than six months at Fox.

FNG also has named Nami Patel as chief financial officer in the UK and Africa, while Makhosazana Khanyile has been appointed director of sales and marketing.

FNG Africa, part of FNG Europe and Africa, operates eight channel brands and websites including Fox, FX, Fox Crime, Fox Sports, National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Gold and BabyTV.

Last month FNG Europe and Africa appointed drama executive Sara Johnson from Keshet UK to help source, develop and produce original productions at a regional level.
