Fox cancels Housebroken, launches food platform with Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay leads production company Studio Ramsay

LA SCREENINGS: US broadcast network Fox has begun the upfronts season by renewing quizshow The Floor for two seasons and striking a first-look deal with host Rob Lowe, cancelling animated comedy Housebroken and unveiling a new culinary platform with Gordon Ramsay.

Housebroken premiered on Fox in 2021 and aired its second season last summer. The plot centres on a group of pets in LA who all take part in a therapy group. Fox said that while it was “pleased with the creative on the series,” the response from viewers “wasn’t as strong” as it had hoped.

Season two averaged one million viewers and a 0.1 L7 rating among adults aged 18 to 49.

The Floor, meanwhile, premiered on Fox in January this year, averaging 5.5 million multiplatform viewers. Hosted and produced by Lowe, seasons two and three will air in 2024 and 2025.

Created by John de Mol’s Talpa, The Floor is produced by Eureka Productions, Talpa and BiggerStage. Alongside the renewal, Fox Entertainment has entered a first-look deal with Lowe to jointly develop unscripted series to air on Fox, which will be produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment.

The new platform from Fox Entertainment and celebrity chef Ramsay is called Bite. It is described as a “multi-tiered global food brand and entertainment platform” featuring culinary and lifestyle content, products and experiences.”

Original series on the platform include digital culinary competition show Idiot Sandwich and Next Level Kitchen, a digital companion series to Next Level Chef.

Designed to “live at the intersection of content and commerce,” Bite has forged a consumer products partnership with cookware brand HexClad, under which HexClad becomes an official sponsor across a range of Fox and Studio Ramsay-owned food content.

In the coming months, Bite will further expand its reach into publishing, consumer products, live events and experiences, and apps and online destinations.

Ramsay said: “Bite is an innovative fusion of my nearly 20-year collaboration with Fox, blending all the experiences, excitement, competition and personality we’ve created together under this original, singular food and lifestyle venture.

“This new brand will cater to every flavour of food fan with an enticing array of original series, compelling food stories and endless digital content that audiences everywhere will eat up.”
