Former Bell Media exec Tom Hastings lands at Muse Entertainment for scripted

Tom Hastings, a former Bell Media executive who departed earlier this year following a shakeup at the Canadian media company, has joined Montreal’s Muse Entertainment as VP of scripted.

In the new role, based out of Muse’s Toronto office, Hastings will oversee the company’s scripted slate. He will report to Jesse Prupas, senior VP of development and distribution, and work closely with Muse’s development teams in Montreal, Toronto and LA.

Hastings was with Bell Media from 2013 to 2021, most recently serving as director of original programming. During that time, he worked on projects including Transplant, Cardinal and 19-2.

He departed Bell Media earlier this year as part of a restructure that also saw the exit of some of the company’s most high-profile executives including Mike Cosentino, Tracey Pearce, Nanci MacLean, Corrie Coe and Edwina Follows.

Before that he worked at Canadian public broadcaster CBC from 2007 to 2013 as head of drama for TV and entertainment.

Tom has developed so many award-winning and critically acclaimed television series for [Bell Media’s] CTV, and for years before that at CBC, that he will no doubt attract the most exceptional projects and creators to be nurtured at Muse Entertainment,” said Prupas in a statement.

Hastings added: “It’s a privilege to work within the Canadian creative community so I am thrilled to be joining the Muse Entertainment team and to continue collaborating with our country’s many brilliant emerging and established writers.”

Earlier this month it was announced that Muse was providing production services on the Quebec-shot drama Three Pines, produced by Left Bank Pictures for Amazon Prime Video. The 8×60’ project stars British-American actor Alfred Molina and is based on Canadian author Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Armand Gamache novels.

Other scripted projects recently produced by Muse include the procedural crime drama Coroner (CBC, CW) and Netflix original movie Good Sam.
