FME gets Ironic, Iconic

MIPCOM NEWS: Fremantle Media Enterprises (FME) has acquired worldwide distribution rights to one-hour documentary Tommy Hilfiger Presents Ironic Iconic America, from US producer @radical.media.

The special, which originally aired on US cablenet Bravo, is based on the book Iconic America: A Roller-Coaster Ride Through the Eye-Popping Panorama of American Pop Culture, by designer Hilfiger and George Lois. It takes a voyeuristic look at the modern US, concentrating on its obsessions with beauty, fashion, love and sex, design and food.

“The show is a tour of America through an ironic and iconic pop culture lens,” explained @radical.media’s president Robert Friedman. “It explores an intriguing and whimsical side of America that is intriguing to other countries and will therefore translate very well internationally.”

Hosted by poet and multi-media artist Rives (HBO’s Def Poetry Jam) and Israeli model Bar Rafaeli, Ironic Iconic America travels coast to coast creating links between the pop cultural elements of American society.

“Ironic Iconic America is a very original piece of programming,” said FME CEO David Ellender. “We observe an ‘insider’ guiding an ‘outsider’ on a journey of discovery about this fascinating nation. We all consume American pop culture product, but rarely have we tried to understand its origin. This show enables us to, and is highly entertaining along the way.”
