First deals for Babylon Berlin

Broadcasters across Europe have acquired Babylon Berlin, the German drama series based on Volker Kutscher’s crime novels.

Sky in the UK and Italy, Spanish premium subscription platform Moviestar+/Telefonica and Belgium pay TV platform Telenet have all picked up the series, as have SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, YLE in Finland and RUV in Iceland.

The 16-hour series, from X Filme Creative Pool, ARD, Sky and Beta Film, will debut on Sky Germany on October 13 and on ARD later in 2018.

Negotiations for a sale with the US are almost complete.

Babylon Berlin is based on the internationally bestselling series of novels from Kutscher and tells the story of a police inspector tackling crime in 1920s Berlin.
