Finland’s Nelonen Media opens The Box in adaptation of Norwegian reality format

Nelonen is the fourth broadcaster to pick up The Box

Finnish broadcaster Nelonen Media has secured the rights to adapt Norwegian adventure reality format The Box.

Originally developed and produced by Seefood TV for TV 2 in Norway, where it debuted last month, The Box sees contestants being placed in boxes and transferred to unknown locations, before being released to take on whatever is on the other side of the door.

Nelonen is the fourth European broadcaster to pick up the format for local adaptation, after TV 2 in Denmark, RTL in the Netherlands and ITV in the UK.

Aleksander Herresthal, creator of The Box and creative director at Seefood TV, said: “This is the fourth official European commission, but we’ve closed deals in over six countries already. We’re expecting more announcements to follow right after London Screenings.”
